I got my start in a hair salon as a receptionist and assistant in Brockville, Ontario as a 15 year old high school student. At the time I was simply searching for a part time job that wouldn’t have me going home everyday smelling of fast food and French fries, little did I know I would find so much more. I found a group of inspiring women who took pride in their work and they were willing to show me the ropes and teach me along the way. As I gained knowledge and experience in the hair industry I also began to feel passionate about exploring hairstyling as a career.
In 2017 I enrolled in an independent study at a trades school called Art and Technique Academy of Hairstyling and Esthetics in Belleville, Ontario. I worked hard to finish my 1500 hours in class and Graduated June of 2018 with a diploma in hairstyling and cosmetology.
I set my sights on a hair salon downtown Kingston to continue my hands on education as an hairstyling apprentice. The combination of diverse clientele and dedicated mentors helped me build my skills further and love what I do even more. After completing my apprenticeship I decided to specialize in my favourite aspects of hairstyling; cutting hair, barbering and men’s grooming.
Summer of 2020 I left the hair salon world and found my place in a barbershop. This is really where I was able to thrive and focus on the skills I enjoy the most; men’s grooming, beards and straight razor shaves. Within a barbershop I had the opportunity to gain confidence with the lost art of straight razor shaves, a skill I had always dreamed of learning.
With all the ups and downs of the last couple years I came out on the other side loving my loyal clientele and my profession even more. As I got busier and busier I tried to think the best way to balance work and everything else in my life. I discovered an opportunity to rent some space and open my own barber company that has lead me to find a new place to thrive.
I look back on 10+ years of doing hair and loving my career and I will be forever grateful to the mentors, coworkers and clients I have had the honour of working with. Here’s to another 10 years!
